PLOS..Week 3

Well, it's been quite a couple of days. The Highway Dept. is working on the road about 1/2 mile from us and as a result, the utilities all had to moved...that means water too. So we spent yesterday and part of today using water that we had drawn up in every pot and pan around..grin. The water came back on some time during the night, but then it was off again by about 6am.

I finished the small piece I was doing for PLOS Week 3. It started as a random line drawing in my journal, then was drawn off using a chalk pencil.

Acorn Top Huts..

The object of this weeks lesson in PLOS is point. Using points to guide the eye around your work. I was working in the yard with DH and since we have a 100+ year old oak tree in the side yard, the ground was covered with acorns and acorn tops. I looked down and there were several tops just sitting in a group looking for all the world like a small conglomeration of tiny huts. Wellll.... I gathered up a handful and found a tiny drill bit and began making small holes in the sides. After couching down the twigs, the acorn top "huts" were put in and the wonderful little stick men that fiberdabbler came up with. It was love at first site when I saw them. The glass beads on the "ground" , the position of the "huts" and the directional movement the little guys hopefully guide the eye around the block. I do like this one.

PLOS..A Little Better Now

After going through the Week 2 Lesson, I fell in love the tiny butterflies that Sharon had outlined in the stitches section. These were just what I needed to take the blah edge off my Muslin Flowers. It's still conservative, but better. I like it better now.

PLOS .. Too Conservative I Think!

I have been working on my Personal Library of Stitches class for a couple of days. I have no problem with the stitches, but cannot seem to find the right balance of colors..ughh

PLOS..Playing Today

This morning I took a piece of the felt that I painted yesterday and began to just play with stitches... straight stitches, running stitch, chain stitch, herringbone stitch and fly stitch. A few beads and a butterfly charm. What I have learned is that my color contrast needs to be stronger. I really enjoy working with the felt.

Personal Library of Stitches

I spent most of the day going through the lesson plan, highlighting, trying to define my goals in my journal (something I haven't done in many years...eek! I don't remember it being so hard! grin) and finally preparing and beginning my sampler. These particular stitches are not ones that I have used, however I have used a variation of the feather stitch many times. It is one of my favorites. I'm sure my decisions will evolve as I go along, but my plan at this point is to explore stitches using a nearly monochromatic color scheme with each sampler.

After I put my things away this afternoon, I went into my work room, painted 2 squares of felt and cut several 7x5" rectangles of unbleached muslin. These I will use to experiment wildly..grin The large samplers I would like to stitch in a more traditional way.

Personal Library of Stitches

I have received the list of supplies needed for Sharon B's online class "Personal Library of Stitches"! The class is offered through Joggles.com. I can't say how much I have looked forward to this class.

In looking back to see when I first came across Sharon's blog and decided to take part in the "Bags of Fun" challenge, I have to laugh... that challenge was the beginning of this blog...lol That was in August of 2005. I've learned a lot since that first blog entry...but must say that I am still a lurker...grin

Work Room Makeover

During the last year, all of my projects have been small so I could work on them inside the house and sitting down. I am finally recovered enough from the happenings of last year that I am beginning to feel really good again and am ready to go back to some larger projects. I have enrolled in Sharon Boggon's online stitchery class Develop a Personal Library of Stitches that is being offered through joggles.com.

I am also starting my first quilt. It will be a Signature Quilt with the signature embroidered on 4" squares. The squares are in the mail for signatures and the ones that I have already received are embroidered. But...

Most of the projects over the last year have had things cut, stitched, embroidered, knitted, beaded... yada yada... and all those leftover things have just been piled and stashed in my room. Sooo...

The next several days will be spent re-doing my workroom, organizing and rearranging things in preparation for the class and the quilt. So if you don't see me here...that is where I will be...
